Gardening

I’m so excited this year!  We are still in our little town house with a postage stamp yard (not excited about that… but it’s ok!) and a friend of mine has opened up her yard to use as a garden! 😉  Thankfully she is only about a 10 minute drive and has kids my kids age.  She hasn’t really gardened and wants to learn and has the space.  I want to do it, but don’t have the space!  What a match made in heaven!

She already has raised beds in and ready to go!

I have three small raised beds and lots of pots on my patio that I have used in the past and plan to continue this year, but I’m really excited at the prospect of an increased yield with extra to share!

I’m running a little behind this year, but I had my kidos help me plant our indoor starts about 2 weeks ago.  We started tomatoes, kale, brussel sprouts,  peppers, dwarf peppers and lots of onions.  So far most of them have sprouted and made an appearance!  They seem to be doing well!  Unfortunately I don’t have a grow light or heating pad so the peppers are slow to show face and the tomatoes are getting a little stringy.  But they are up and hopefully will fully adjust once they are transplanted outside!

Everyday the kids are checking to see if any new sprouts have made their appearance or how many new leaves have shown up!  I don’t remember them doing this last year and it’s so fun to see them learn and get excited about it as well!

The weather is beginning to finally warm and we hope to add green beans, squash, carrots, beets, watermelon, cantaloupe, dill, basil, and cilantro as the spring arrives and the soil warms.  We will be sure to keep you posted on our progress!

Are you planting a garden this year?  What do you plan on growing?
