By, Rachel Godfrey

This is a new type of book review! But one that I’m excited about! This is written by a dear friend of mine. We became friends soon after I graduated nursing schools and was a baby nurse! She took me under her wing and shared much knowledge with me as we worked together in the Emergency Room. I still greatly respect her nursing knowledge and have much yet to learn from her.

She wasn’t yet a believer when we met, but God helped me to love her and show His love to her even when she doubted. God has since claimed her affections and she joyfully and tirelessly serves him here, around the US and abroad! Now her faith and pursuit of a deeper relationship with her Savior is paramount in her life and encourages me in my walk!

On to her book!

This was a quick read; easy and hard at the same time. Its easy to read the words on the page, but hard to stop and apply it to me. The subtitle of the book is, “Journey to the Heart of the Holy Spirit”. Our whole lives are a journey with our Lord and it was a pleasure to read about this sisters journey.

I’ve been around for a lot of it an know what I have seen of her journey, but it is such a joy to read the same story from her heart. To see how God has used her and is changing her.

I particularly liked chapter twelve about worship. Read what she writes:

The only conclusion I can come to concerning that scripture [Psalm 139:17,18] is I am loved. We are loved by Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. We are loved by them, so much, that we will NEVER be able to understand the depths of Their love for us! Catch hold of this truth, and I promise, your life will NEVER be the same! Remember, you can love God because he loved YOU first! Real and authentic worship is just YOUR response to His love.

After the difficult year I’ve had in 2015, worship has been more precious and deep for me. There is a realness there that hasn’t been there before. And at the same time I’ve also felt more loved and held in His hand than ever before. I love the last sentence the most. Worship is our response to His love…. So true!

I do want to make quick note that I don’t necessarily agree 100% with all that she writes, but it was so good for me to read and be challenged on what I do believe. I welcome the challenge to read new things and reevaluate my heart. Maybe I’m the one that’s wrong and not her!! What a thought!!

Anyway I’m grateful for this book an SO grateful for the redeeming work of Christ in the life of my dear friend Rachel!
