The Jew Store

By, Stella Suberman

I guess that not every book can be a fantastic read! Of course I had to finish it. I just can’t stop a book in the middle unless it is absolutely terrible. So, I read to the end and it was interesting as far as an autobiography goes, but wasn’t captivating. I didn’t enjoy the style of penmanship very much either. Maybe it was just a little harder to read than what I’m used to or maybe it was something else, but I had a hard time making time to sit down and read it. Continue reading “The Jew Store”

The Memory Keeper’s Daughter: A Novel

[amazon_link id=”B000OCXFWY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]The Memory Keeper's Daughter: A Novel[/amazon_link] By, Kim Edwards

Another great book!  And this time it’s a novel.  I can’t remember where this book was recommended, but part of what drew me to it was the fact that one of the leading characters was a nurse who assumed care of an unwanted baby.  Being a nurse myself, anything medical does draw my attention; especially in a novel! A Sweet and Bitter Providence

[amazon_link id=”1433514370″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]A Sweet and Bitter Providence: Sex, Race, and the Sovereignty of God[/amazon_link]

This was a great read.  Especially if you feel like you’ve got the rotten deal in life at this point in time.  The book is well written and an easy read!  Piper goes step by step through the biblical story of Ruth and Naomi talking about how it seems like they have been dealt a very bitter providence, but how God in His amazing grace turns it all around into a very sweet redemption. Thank You, Grandpa

Thank you, Grandpa

This is a great story about a little girl who has a close relationship with her grandfather. They explore and enjoy nature together and start to comprend and cope with death. In the end the little girl says thank you and good bye to her grandfather. This book made me cry as I thought of my own grandfather and my close relationship with him. Both of my boys were looking at me and asking why I was crying. Not much makes me cry, but this book was especially touching. This would be a great book to help kids cope and accept the dealth of a loved one, especially a grandfather.

I wasn’t planning on posting anything about kids books, but this one was so touching and I want to remember it for when we may need it in the future.

Why We Get Fat

So why a book report… haven’t I gotten out of grade school by now? Didn’t I write enough that I should never want to ever write them again? Or not even look at one until I have to review the ones my kids have to write? Well, I do have a goal to read 24 books a year. It is just that… a goal. I’m not on target this year, but it is something I’d really like to do! In a perfect world I’ll be able to read one fiction and one non-fiction monthly. Continue reading “Why We Get Fat”
