Nourishing Traditions Book Review – Part XXV – Snacks & Finger Foods

I’ve been looking forward to this chapter for quite a while!  Who doesn’t like snacks! And since we don’t eat many grains (no gluten for sure), no soy, no dairy (for baby), and hubby isn’t supposed to be eating corn it greatly cuts down on the options for snack foods!  Corn tortilla chips are usually the only for sure option that is decently affordable, that is, after purchasing organic so as to avoid the GMOs! Forks over Knives

I had been hearing about this documentary and have been wanting to watch it, but just haven’t made the time to do so.  It’s free for viewing on hulu which is where I watched it.  There are commercials here and there, but still worth it!

Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXIV – Grains & Legumes

Whole Grains
The information in this chapter is vast and very informative.  Even though we don’t really do many grains I still found it very interesting and helpful.  We do use[amazon_link id=”B004VLVO7W” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ] steel cut oat[/amazon_link]s and [amazon_link id=”B0036FB6FY” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]quinoa[/amazon_link] and some occasional rice.  We do often soak them, but not long enough according to Fallon. Garlic and Olive Oil Ear Drops

About this time last year I did a post about ear pain in kids.  I know not often do you find ear pain this time of year, but this post is in preparation of the season to come.  Hopefully being knowledgable and prepared will help stave off the infections! Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXIII – Eggs and Sandwich Suggestions

Eggs
We go through about 3 dozen eggs a week for 5 people!  Because of the volume we consume, eggs were one of the first things that I decided needed to be switched to a healthier option than just store purchased. Eggs are so good for you… only if they are raised well: on bugs and grass and outside! Continue reading “Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXIII – Eggs and Sandwich Suggestions”

Coconut Wraps

A friend turned me onto these coconut wraps a few months ago!  They are great!  They are so much better than any gluten free option for wraps.  They fold and bend well and don’t easily crack.  They are thin and great for veggie or sandwich wraps.  The only downside to them is that they are pricey.  They run about $5.99 for 4 wraps.  CRAZY when it’s less than $2 for eight flour tortillas!  Actually it’s a little sickening to think of it that way. Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXII – Meat Salads & South of the Border

Meat Salads

This chapter has a lot of great ideas and recipes, however most of them take too much preparation for daily lunch fare.  Far too involved for a kidos lunch!  My kids eat well, but not gourmet for lunch!

Soaking Nuts

Soaking foods? I know this is good for me, but I don’t really have to time to add one more thing.  AND  I have no idea where to start.  It’s overwhelming, something I’ve never had experience with and don’t know anyone who does it.

Nourishing Traditions Book Review – Part XXI: Catalog of Vegetables

I LOVE this chapter.  There are 55 pages of recipes!  And I know I can get stuck in a rut of always making the same things and there is quite a wide variety of samplings of different veggies and how to prepare them.  I’ve actually never made an artichoke before, can you believe it?  And the recipe for them explains how to prepare, cook and serve them!  That is exactly what I need for veggies I’m unfamiliar with! Take Action!

I HATE  politics. I don’t like voting, I don’t like being politically involved. I don’t like debates, I don’t like lobbying, I don’t like signing petitions, I don’t like calling senators and I could go on and on. HOWEVER! If I’m going to complain about the way things are, then I need to be willing to take action. Continue reading “Take Action!”
