Homemade Toothpaste

This has been a huge subject of conversation and research in our house recently.  Commercial toothpastes have so many chemicals, additives, sweeteners, artificial colorings and a whole host of other stuff not to mention fluoride!  I’ve been on the hunt to find something all natural that works and doesn’t cost too much.  We’ve tried a few, but nothing we were 100% sold on.  Continue reading “Homemade Toothpaste”

Eco Friendly Christmas Gift Wrap Options

I have always hated buying beautiful paper only to cut it, rip it and throw it away.  I’ve done it for many years because that is the thing to do.  Over the last five years I’ve come up with new ideas and have been able to repurpose all kinds of things to use!  It does take some time and effort to get started, but it can be continued for years with minimal effort.  I have been “collecting” for a few years now and haven’t had to purchase any gift wrapping supplies for at least 3 years. Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup

I’ve missed making recipes that call for Cream of Mushroom soup. I just love Chicken Divan and Beef Stroganoff and so many other yummy recipes! As many of you try to do as well, I’m sure; I’ve been trying to rid all processed foods out of my pantry. I’ve worked so hard on this, and yet these soups are easy and yummy and so tasty… probably because they have MSG in them! Continue reading “Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup”

Fruit Fly Infestation

Does anybody besides me have problems with fruit flies?  I always try to buy relatively ripe fruit and inevitably there are a few that are a tad over ripe by the time we actually eat them.  Bananas are the biggest culprit! Continue reading “Fruit Fly Infestation”

Canning – Part I – Peaches

My mom got me a bushel of peaches last week and I was so excited!  I still am!  They are so good!  So sweet and juicy!  Perfect for a cool summer dessert!  If you’ve never had an orchard peach you are missing out!  I purchased a few peaches as a treat last week from the grocery store and it was such a disappointment.  They were hard, grainy and had no flavor.  These were just the opposite! Continue reading “Canning – Part I – Peaches”

Pickin’ Blackberries

A few weeks ago I took the kids blackberry picking and we had a great time! They picked for about.. hmmm… 5 minutes? And that is pretty generous! But, while I picked they played with sticks, found animal poo (this was VERY exciting for little boys and has been a conversational piece for weeks), threw rocks, explored the woods, pushed dead trees down, stepped in stagnate water in the ditch, collected rocks, flowers, and other treasures in their pails and had a great time! No More Microwave!

We finally did it! We got rid of it! What a relief and what exhilaration!

I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time and we finally took the plunge! Since we have young kids it is so much easier to heat things up lickity split when there is a melt down due to low food intake and immediate sustenance being a necessity! However… it will just take a bit more planning on my part and a little more preparation so that we aren’t needing something post haste! Continue reading “No More Microwave!”

My Garden

How rewarding it is to see the fruit of one’s hands. I just love to look around my yard and see the harvest of hard work, faithful watering and plentiful produce! I enjoy a mix of flowers, vegetables and fruits. Each has their importance and enjoyment. Continue reading “My Garden”

Homemade, Natural, Organic Deodorant

What do you do if you have a smelly, stinky, uh well… pretty much offensive BO and it’s your own hubby?!?!?! Prior to getting married many of dear hubby’s friends warned me and said they couldn’t understand how I was going to put up with it! 😉 Continue reading “Homemade, Natural, Organic Deodorant”

The Power of the Clothesline

What better smell is there than clothing dried outside on the line!  The spring summer and fall is some of my favorite times of year and part of that is due to the fact that I can now hang laundry on the line!  There are so many benefits!  The smell, the time with the quiet, forced time to go outside, little ones who want to help, training children to learn to work, and the satisfaction of saving money while getting additional blessing! Continue reading “The Power of the Clothesline”
