Pumpkin Pie Icy

After naps today it was warm, a bit humid, sunny and we all needed a snack… but we all wanted a “treat” as the boys like to say.  As we were talking about what that treat might look like they were running through options that typical kids would think of, but, of which, we had none on hand.  Tonchi wanted gum or candy and Koa wanted chocolate.  Aisling would have been happy with whatever sweet she was given, grapes probably would have done it for her, but she is happy to go along with the boys… most of the time! Cooking oils

A dear friend of mine recently emailed me stating she was looking into cooking oils, what options there are and what would be best for different purposes. I emailed her a quick reply with what we use, but I thought maybe there are others out there who have the same questions…. Continue reading “Cooking oils”

I finished this book last month and while I’m glad I read it, I can’t say I recommend it very highly.  The style of writing was colorful and poetic in the way it was written, but not what I particularly enjoy.  Because of the verbage, there were parts that took more thought to figure out what the author was trying to convey.  Not a light read for me at least! Crunchy Summer Cabbage Salad

Last week I had a head of cabbage that needed to be used and some other random veggies and a summer picnic coming up with no idea what to make.  I wanted to make salad that my family could enjoy to make sure there was something at the picnic we would be able to eat.

Nourishing Traditions Book Review – Part XXVII: Beverages

By Frye and Mercier

This past week we were at the beach and I didn’t bring a book… Well… intentionally didn’t bring a book with me… shocked?  This may change that! I went with my three kids (aged 5, 3 and 1) and my sister and her “three kids” (4,2 and she is 8 months pregnant)! The hubbies had to work, so it was just the two of us with a daycare! So, needless to say I didn’t think I’d get much time to read, and I was pretty much right. Continue reading “Our Father Who Aren’t In Heaven”

Peking Duck and Hoisin Sauce

This past week was our first week of homeschooling!  We had SO much fun, I feel like it was stress free and Tonchi and I  (and sometimes Koa and Aisling joined in) really just had a good time together.  I can say that after the first week, but I hope I can say that after the 4th week and the 44th week and the 4th year and so on!  This is a new start for us and I’m super excited! So What’s Wrong with Sugar?

Last week while I was at work I was talking to a co-worker about our family’s diet changes.  She had complained that she had been trying so hard to lose weight, but it just wasn’t happening.  I was describing the changes we had made over the last year and mentioned that my post baby weight fell off once I committed to the changes as well!  She said she knew she needed to make those choices, but wasn’t ready to commit to it yet. Genetic Roulette

This documentary, Genetic Roulette, I just finished watching today and it was excellent.  Yes, it is just another documentary on GMOs, but it is very good, interesting and a great reminder to be more vigilant in avoiding them.  I also felt it was more encouraging that there is hope that we can change things for ourselves and our future.  So many other documentaries give the impression that the damage is done, there is no going back and there is nothing we can do about it.
