Gardening

I’m so excited this year!  We are still in our little town house with a postage stamp yard (not excited about that… but it’s ok!) and a friend of mine has opened up her yard to use as a garden! 😉  Thankfully she is only about a 10 minute drive and has kids my kids age.  She hasn’t really gardened and wants to learn and has the space.  I want to do it, but don’t have the space!  What a match made in heaven! Easter Preparations

Each year I feel like Easter comes and goes without have many traditions or memories except a large meal with family.  That is special, but there is so much more to Easter than just that.  The essential truth to our Salvation occurred!  This should be more celebrated that Christmas and yet it isn’t… even in the lives of many Christians it isn’t. Koa’s Birthday

Koa had the longest drawn out birthday!  And of course he milked every minute! 😉  The actual day of his birthday was March 6th when the east coast was supposed to get a tremendous snow storm that, as per usual, was quite disappointing and all the snow was gone by the next day…. but with the knowledge that it was supposed to snow we started his celebrations the day before.

I took the kids to Claude Moore Park and they had a great time in the visitor’s center that has a great educational area for kids.  It really was fantastic and they didn’t want to leave!  The day was so nice they left their jackets in the car and we enjoyed a picnic lunch.

We even had extra time to run around outside and enjoy the bright sunshine!

The next day, it did snow all day, but didn’t stick much since it started with rain, but it was very beautiful to watch!  We stayed in and had some hot chocolate and Koa helped bake his birthday cupcakes.

And… he got to decorate them himself!

The evening of his birthday we were supposed to meet friends and family at Chick-fil-A (per Koa’s request) for dinner and cupcakes.  Due to the snow we had to postpone it for the following week.

It was still a great turnout and lots of fun!  Koa had requested monster cupcakes and that is exactly what we did!  We were all tickled with out they turned out and they were a big hit!

Of course our diet and allergies didn’t completely fly out the window, but we certainly did have an overdose of sugar.  In fact… ALL of us had some tummy discomfort that evening and I think it was the overload of sugar!

The recipe I used for the chocolate allergy friendly cupcakes was from Real Sustinance and I LOVE her recipes.  ALL of the ones I’ve tried have turned out and have been delicious.  So… for his birthday we had the grain free, vegan, soy free, chocolate cupcakes and they were loved by all!

He really had a great week and is so proud he just turned 4!  So if you see him, ask his age and he will be super excited to tell you!

Pumpkin Pancakes

Usually we are late to church on Sundays and it drives me crazy.  We seem to get out of the house in a reasonable amount of time any other day of the week, but on Sundays we can’t seem to make it!  Church doesn’t even start until 10am! Continue reading “Pumpkin Pancakes”

Aisling’s Birthday’s

Last week was baby girl Aisling 2nd birthday… it goes SO fast!

As a family we have decided that we will do something special together or with friends and/or extended families for birthdays instead of gifts.  So this year for Aisling we decided to have an open house from 6pm – 9pm on her birthday.  We invited 62 people (JUST close friends and family) and of those 43 showed up (in our 500 sq ft main level)!  Thankfully it was pretty spread out, but it was still quite a crowd and lots of noise and craziness!  At one point there were 10 kids under the age of 5  running around!  But we all had a great time! Planning My Day

Post Prompted by Shopping for Time

I originally planned out this schedule about 3 years ago and it is still my goal for the day and week.  A lot of time it changes, but it at least gives me an outline or idea of what my day and week will look like.  Also, because I have a plan, I’m more likely to get up and get things done.  I’ve found that if there is no reason for me to get up early, then I definitely won’t wake up ahead of the kids!  I would let them be my alarm clocks! Snow Ice Cream

At the end of last week the DC metro area saw an inch or two of snow!  The most for the year so far!  I LOVE it when it snows and I wish we got more than that around here.  I grew up in this area and remember getting some large (of this area, definitely nothing compared to New England or Michigan!) snows!  We would be outside playing all morning or until we were soaked to the skin and then we only came in long enough to change into dry clothing and go out again! Long and Short Term Goals

Long and Short Term Goals
Prompted by Shopping for Time

Planning goals for the year is always a good way to start.  It helps me re- orient, re-evaluate and re-focus.  So often I can get so focused on today and tomorrow that I forget to look up… I like to take some time and think back over what I had planned to do last year and then think about what we actually did.  It also helps me think about what I’d like to get around to this year! Root Canal

So what prompted this post?  Well… just before Christmas, dear hubby tree climber chipped a tooth (not doing tree work… but eating a quesadilla!).  Both of us have a few fillings, but neither one of us have had many extensive problems with our teeth, praise God.  So we really had no idea what a chipped tooth meant and what our options were. Christmas Recovery

We are so blessed to have both my family and my husbands family in the area.  It makes schedules tricky sometimes, but thankfully they both work together and aren’t easily offended when we spend one holiday with one family and then rotate for the next! Continue reading “Christmas Recovery”
