Left To Tell
By Immaculee Ilibagiza

WOW!  I don’t even have words to describe what this book did to me.  I had no idea what the Rwandan genocide entailed…. nearly a million Rwandans lost their lives in nearly 100 days.  The author of this book survived by being hidden in a very small bathroom with seven other woman for 91 days. They had standing room only and were never sure when they would get a meal, often 1 meal every few days for them all to share. Continue reading “Left To Tell”

Rosemary Sage Turkey

I know this post probably won’t be quite that helpful since it is AFTER Thanksgiving, but if you have turkey again for Christmas or New Years, maybe it will come in handy! Or if you are anything like us… God provides in amazing ways! Continue reading “Rosemary Sage Turkey”

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope your day is extra special and that it is full of thanksgiving!  We have so much to be grateful for!  Just the simple everyday blessings that we often don’t even think about are HUGE!  Food to eat, a roof over our heads, health (or at least ability to see a Dr for our health), family, clothing to wear.  There are many here in this country and all over the world that struggle just to have these simple needs met.

The Post-Office Girl
By Stefan Zweig
Translated by Joel Rotenberg

This was another book recommended by the World Magazine and it was originally written in German.  As many of you well know I’m interested in all things German, WWII, Holocaust, Jew, etc.  This book doesn’t actually fill those joys, but it is slightly similar!  It takes place in Austria after WWI.   Continue reading “The Post-Office Girl”

Salmon Jerky

In one of my recent posts from [amazon_link id=”0967089735″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Nourishing Traditions[/amazon_link] I talked about the chapter on finger foods and mentioned my desire to make salmon jerky. I finally got around to it and I’m so glad I did!  I didn’t follow the recipe in [amazon_link id=”0967089735″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Nourishing Traditions[/amazon_link], but instead just put a few spices (I can’t remember what I put on it… sorry I know that is NOT helpful!) on it, sliced it about ¼ inch pieces and then [amazon_link id=”B001P2FUZC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]dehydrated[/amazon_link] it! Baltimore – Part II

So after a FANTASTIC start to the trip, we really enjoyed the rest of our stay.

The beautiful hotel is in the historic building that used to be the headquarters for the B&O railroad.

The Hotel Monaco Baltimore was amazing!  While we were checking in they had a treasure box full of all sorts of things kids would like.  Each of the kids got to pick something out!  Tonchi picked an art kit from [amazon_link id=”B00005JNS0″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Disney’s Cars movie[/amazon_link], Koa picked a flashlight (not surprising if you know him at all!), and Aisling picked a pack of 1000 stickers.  These kept them occupied during any spare moment we had and they didn’t even play with the few matchbox cars or books that we brought with us! Almond Coconut Cookies

I haven’t made cookies in the [amazon_link id=”B001P2FUZC” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]dehydrator[/amazon_link] or crackers in a while and thought it was high time to do it again.  I wanted something somewhat sweet, but also coconutty. I mixed and threw in a little of this and a little of that and they were super fantastic!  The kids love them and we will definitely be doing these again!   Continue reading “Almond Coconut Cookies”

Balitmore

I know… not a usual posting topic for me… but I’m trying to let you in more on the workings and activities of our family.  This will probably be a LLLOOONNNGGG post because of the escapades we had!  Some good… some not so great!  But it was a memorable few days for sure! Continue reading “Balitmore”

Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXX – Appendices

This is the LAST post from this book!  Can you believe it!  Well… the last scheduled post.  When I find more fantastic recipes in the book I’ll definitely have to post those as well!  I’m so excited to be at the end, but sad as well.  I’m glad I’ve finally finished… but it was nice to have something consistent and routine to make me finish getting through all of it!   Continue reading “Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part XXX – Appendices”

Deviled Eggs

Does anyone besides me get stuck on lunch ideas?  We do often have leftovers from the night before, but recently we’ve had some BIG eaters around here and we’ve had enough leftovers for 1… so Brian usually takes that to work for lunch. Continue reading “Deviled Eggs”
