This stew was amazing! As we sat down to dinner the first thing Tree Climber (hubby) asked was, “Does this have meat in it?” Since he work hard all day cutting trees, climbing trees, carrying trees, stacking trees, etc… he has the appitite of a lumbar jack. When I answered “No”, his response was, “Well, am I going to miss it?” Continue reading “Spicy Ethiopian Red Lentil Stew”

Homemade Toothpaste
This has been a huge subject of conversation and research in our house recently. Commercial toothpastes have so many chemicals, additives, sweeteners, artificial colorings and a whole host of other stuff not to mention fluoride! I’ve been on the hunt to find something all natural that works and doesn’t cost too much. We’ve tried a few, but nothing we were 100% sold on. Continue reading “Homemade Toothpaste”
Blueberry Cobbler
We were just given about 14 pints of blueberries! What a treat! I froze some to use for pancakes, muffins, cobbler and smoothies for the future, but since they were fresh I wanted to make a cobbler… NOW! We had it last night for dessert and it was delish! Continue reading “Blueberry Cobbler”
Chewy Chocolate Bars
This recipe is AMAZING! I saw it in one of my favorite websites, Bulk Herb Store and we have really enjoyed this! HUGE hit with all in our family! I’m going to add this to my Christmas treat list! It is a bit expensive, but you don’t need to eat much at a time. I’m often all about saving money on food. However, this recipe looked great and I wanted to give it a try. It was SO worth it! Christmas Cookies: Chocolate Chip Cookies
In the past I’ve been one to make lots of different varieties of Christmas cookies! It is so nice to have them on hand and be able to invite friends over for coffee and cookies in the evening and have something to share and not have to think about what to make. It’s also nice to be able to take a tray of homemade cookies to gatherings when you are expected to bring a little something to share. Continue reading “Christmas Cookies: Chocolate Chip Cookies”
Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part VIII- Fermented Vegetables & Fruits
Lacto-fermentation is something I’m relatively new to, but I’ve gotten a bit of practice over the last few months. I’ve successfully made sauerkraut, ketchup, mayonnaise, kimchi and some pickles. We weren’t huge fans of the pickles (except for Tonchi who loves them). The rest of us weren’t too thrilled with the flavor. I think that was due to the fact we were expecting the flavor to be similar to traditional pickles, of which it wasn’t. I also plan to try it a few more times with different ingredients. Continue reading “Nourishing Traditions Book Review: Part VIII- Fermented Vegetables & Fruits”
Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie with Ginger Bread Crust
My mother-in-law purchased the best pumpkin pie I had ever tasted at the local farmer’s market. I love pumpkin pie anyways, but this was a little piece of heaven! It was so delicious I was determined to recreate it as best I could. I gave it an attempt for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. I’ve had multiple requests for it and there weren’t any leftovers! Below is the recipe I’ve pieced together from all over. Continue reading “Apple Butter Pumpkin Pie with Ginger Bread Crust”
Cough and Cold Symptoms
EVERY child with no exception contracts this before the age of 12 months! Sometimes it is very mild and more a nuisance than anything. However, there are other times where the mamas and papas are concerned, breathing is labored or rapid, sometimes a fever, sometimes wheezing and often a nasty wet cough. Continue reading “Cough and Cold Symptoms”
Almond Flour Blueberry Muffins
I’m always looking for more breakfast ideas besides oatmeal and eggs as far as quick and easy. We have a few other muffin recipes and this one has been a hit! Continue reading “Almond Flour Blueberry Muffins”
